The Language of AI Visibility: Every Term, Explained

Domain authority, citations, schema, prompt mining, and every other term you will hear from us, in plain English.

AI visibility comes with jargon. Here is every term you will run into in this work, explained the way we would across a table.

AEO (Answer Engine Optimization)
The practice of making your online presence easy for AI tools to read, understand, and trust so they recommend you when someone asks a relevant question. Traditional SEO was about ranking on Google. AEO is about showing up in AI-generated answers.
AI Knowledge Graph
A massive interconnected database that AI systems use to understand real-world entities, including people, businesses, and places, and how they relate to each other. Getting your business properly mapped into this graph means AI tools recognize you as a real, established, trusted entity rather than an unknown name. Our Schema/JSON-LD work is specifically designed to place you correctly in this graph.
AI Visibility
How prominently and how often your business appears in responses from AI tools like ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, and Claude when people ask for recommendations or information. High AI visibility means when someone asks an AI who to call in your area, your name comes up.
AI Visibility Score
Our overall measure of how visible you are to AI search, built from three pillars: your website itself, your authority across the internet, and your local presence everywhere else you are listed. No single thing gets you picked up by AI; the score weighs how everything works together.
Authority Gap
A topic, neighborhood, or search question where your competitors are showing up in AI responses and you are not. For example, when a competitor is showing up for questions about first-time homebuyers in a specific neighborhood and you are not, that is an authority gap, and targeted content is how it closes.
Backlink Profile
The collection of other websites that link back to yours. When credible, relevant websites link to you, it signals to both search engines and AI tools that your site is a trusted resource. A strong backlink profile is one component of overall domain authority.
Backlinks and referring domains
A backlink is another website linking to yours; referring domains counts how many distinct websites do it. Think of each one as a vouch, a handshake from another corner of the internet. Quality matters more than quantity: a link from a real news site is worth more than a hundred from junk blogs, and AI has gotten very good at telling the difference.
Citations and NAP
A citation is any place your business is listed online: Zillow, Realtor, Yelp, and dozens more. NAP is name, address, phone, the details that must match exactly everywhere. AI cross-references your listings before recommending you, and inconsistencies make it hesitate and pick someone else.
Crawling and indexing
How AI and search engines read the internet: automated crawlers visit your pages, read the text at enormous speed, and store what they find. A slow site or a confusing structure means crawlers leave before reading everything, which is why speed and structure sit under so much of the work.
Digital Footprint
The complete collection of everything about your business that exists online. This includes your website, social profiles, business directory listings, reviews, news mentions, and any other digital references to your name or business. The size and consistency of your footprint directly affects how much AI tools trust you.
Domain authority
The reputation score of your website across the wider internet. AI wants to use websites it trusts, and authority is how that trust gets measured. Most agent websites have very low authority, not because the agents are not credible, but because nobody was building it for them.
E-E-A-T
Experience, expertise, authoritativeness, trustworthiness: the crux of what AI search evaluates before recommending anyone. Years in business, awards, testimonials with real detail, sourced facts, complete profiles; AI looks for evidence of all four.
GA4 and Search Console
Free Google tools that track how people find and use your website. GA4 shows you visitor behavior, traffic sources, and conversion data. Search Console shows you what search terms your site is appearing for and how often people click through. Together they give you a clear picture of your organic performance over time.
Google Business Profile (GBP)
Your free Google listing that appears when people search for you or for professionals in your area. It shows your hours, photos, reviews, and contact information. A fully optimized GBP is one of the strongest signals AI tools use when recommending local businesses. It is essentially your business card on the internet's most trusted platform.
Identity Decay
What happens over time when your business information becomes inconsistent or outdated across the internet. A phone number that changed two years ago but is still listed on 30 directories, an old office address, or duplicate listings under slightly different business names all contribute to Identity Decay. It quietly erodes the trust AI systems have in your data. Ongoing monitoring catches and fixes this before it costs you leads.
IDX Integration
IDX stands for Internet Data Exchange. It is the technology that pulls live MLS (Multiple Listing Service) property listings directly onto your website in real time. This means visitors can search available homes right from your site without going to Zillow or Realtor.com, which keeps potential clients engaged with your brand.
Keywords
The searches your website tells the internet it can answer. Your site "gives out" keywords through its content, and the goal is for those keywords to match what people in your market actually type, then rank for them.
Knowledge panel
The information box Google shows for a business it fully recognizes. Having one means Google has confidently resolved you as a real entity; strong brands own theirs.
llms.txt
A newer file placed on your website written specifically for AI systems, describing your site in the way large language models prefer to consume it. Most websites do not have one yet; every site we build ships one.
One-entity resolution
AI's need to be certain that all the mentions of you across the internet are the same business. Consistent names, addresses, and interlinked profiles resolve you into one clear entity; three name formats and two old addresses dissolve you into a question mark.
PR Release Distribution
Publishing press releases about your business across news websites and media outlets. This creates high-quality mentions of your business name across the web, which AI tools treat as a strong credibility signal. It essentially tells AI systems that your business is being talked about in the real world, which makes you more likely to be recommended.
Prompt mining
Keyword research for the AI age: research into the actual questions people ask ChatGPT, Gemini, and other AI tools in your market. Everything we write gets engineered against it, so your content answers the questions really being asked.
Schema markup (JSON-LD)
Structured data added to your website's code that tells AI exactly who you are, where you operate, and what you do, in the format machines read natively. Like a billboard written in AI's own language; without it, AI has to guess at context instead of reading it directly.
Semantic HTML
A way of writing website code that makes it easy for AI and search engines to understand the meaning and structure of each piece of content, not just the words themselves. A site built with semantic HTML is like a well-organized book with clear chapter headings, versus a pile of loose pages.
SERP features
The special boxes on a Google results page: answer boxes, FAQs, map results. The same real estate Google's AI uses to construct its AI answers, which makes owning them a direct on-ramp to AI citation.
Share of voice
Of all the times AI answers a relevant question in your market, how often you are the one named. The number a visibility program exists to move.
Spam score
A measure of how much of your existing backlink profile looks low-quality. A high proportion of junk links can undercut the authority your good links build.
WCAG 2.2 AA Compliance
Web Content Accessibility Guidelines. These are internationally recognized standards ensuring your website is usable by people with disabilities, including those using screen readers or keyboard navigation. Meeting these standards also signals to AI systems that your website is built to a professional, modern standard.
